WWHAM has been taught to all pharmacy professionals since the day they enter the pharmacy world. It's a simple system designed to cover the interaction with a patient in OTC situations.

However, since OTC advice and recommendations are not recorded anywhere the accountability of such patient interactions are virtually zero.

With pharmacy professionals taking on new roles in the primary care setting, the expectations of full clinical management of patients is paramount, including documentation, safety netting and referral.

Being able to assess patients competently will allow pharmacists to take a step closer to adopting new patient facing roles in long term condition clinics and acute care whilst complementing their existing roles in medicines optimisation.
